  64. Welcome to Q_LABELS v2.0.  Sure there are a lot of label programs out
  65. there but not all of them are alike.  We have tried to bring you one of
  66. the finest.  Seeing is believing.  Q_LABELS was designed to be easy to
  67. use and still have many powerful features.  If your need is home use or
  68. you are running a small business, this program will work for you.  If
  69. all you need is labels for tapes, cans, books, etc. or if you need a
  70. powerfull mailing label program that prints U.S.P.S. approved Postnet
  71. Barcodes, then this is for you.  Use the "INSTALL" program to install
  72. to your hard drive.  You can print the complete manual if you want but
  73. the on line help is very complete.  In most cases simply press F1 for
  74. help.  Create as many databases as you need, each can hold over a
  75. million records.  Some of Q_LABELS  many features are pull down menus,
  76. mouse support, contact sensitive help, prints labels, index cards,
  77. envelopes, and post cards.  Use one of the pre-defined label sizes or
  78. use the free form design feature to create your own sizes.

  80. Quite detailed documentation is included in the package, but it is in
  81. archived form, and is more easily read after installation.

  83. This evaluation version includes all the major features of the program,
  84. and is not crippled in any way.  You may use it for up to 30 days,
  85. without charge If you like the program, and wish to continue its use
  86. after this evaluation period, you are required to pay for the program.
  87. Any fee you may have paid to others (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to
  88. obtain this evaluation version was a fee for their copying and
  89. distribution services, rather than a payment for continued use of the
  90. program.

  92. You can choose to print the manual (QLABELS.TXT) using the included
  93. utility "PRINTMAN.EXE" or simply copy QLABELS.TXT to your printer.

  95. To use the printman utility type: PRINTMAN (press the ENTER key)

  97. To copy to your printer use the DOS command: COPY QLABELS.TXT PRN
  98.                                           or COPY QLABELS.TXT LPT1

  100. A utility is also included for printing an order form.  The order form
  101. is a file named (ORDER.TXT).  Use the utility by typing it's name
  102. ORDER (press enter) and fill in the blanks.  Use one of the above DOS
  103. commands to print an order form, substituting the name "ORDER.TXT".

  145. ===== Installation =====================================

  147. The newest CD should contain it's own installation procedure.  If it
  148. does then you may not need to use the included install program.  I have
  149. instructed the new CD install program to use the temporary directory
  150. name of "TMPDIR" to install to.  Once the CD rom installation utility
  151. extracts the program for you you can follow the instructions below and
  152. use the install program to copy only the Q_LABELS files to a new
  153. directory.  If your CONFIG.SYS file contains the line FILES=20 you can
  154. have the CD installation program install to any new directory of your
  155. choice (I recommend the directory name "QLABELS").  Make sure you have
  156. the FILES=20 (or any number higher) in your CONFIG.SYS file.

  160. The installation procedure for Q_LABELS is quite simple.  The package
  161. includes a program, "INSTALL.EXE", which automates the entire process.
  162. You will need about 750K of available disk space on the hard drive on
  163. which you plan to install Q_LABELS.
  164.  
  165. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  166. Q_LABELS.
  167.  
  168. If you received the package in a "zip" file (QL20.ZIP) you will have to
  169. unzip the files before you can use the install program.
  170.  
  171. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  172.  
  173. To install from a diskette, you need to perform the following steps.
  174.  
  175.    o  Place Q_LABELS distribution diskette in the appropriate
  176.       diskette drive.
  177.  
  178.    o  Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  179.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A:, type
  180.       the MS-DOS command, "a:install".
  181.  
  182.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  183.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  184.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  185.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  186.       the Q_LABELS files to that directory.If you so direct it, the
  187.       installation program will install executable programs and
  188.       documentation in other directories of your choice.  It will
  189.       make no other changes; specifically, it will not modify your
  190.       autoexec.bat or config.sys files without your permission.

  193. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  194.  
  195. If you downloaded Q_LABELS from a BBS (or received it in the form of
  196. archive files from some other source), you will need to perform the
  197. following steps.

  199.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  200.       directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  201.       varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
  202.       In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
  203.       that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
  204.       perform this step.  If not, you should be able to obtain
  205.       directions for this from the same source from which you received
  206.       the package.

  208.    o  Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  209.       example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted
  210.       the Q_LABELS package is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the MS-DOS

  231. (QLABELS.TXT) which has been installed.  In particular, read at least
  232. the first few sections of the file "QLABELS.TXT".  That document will

  234. you need to properly evaluate Q_LABELS.  We hope you enjoy the program.
